Various Gymnasiums

PUBLIC47 and partner Jeff Boone have lead the design of numerous gymnasiums around the Puget Sound.  Our gymnasium designs carefully calibrate and integrate natural daylight.  Most of these gyms can be used during daylight hours without the use of electric lights. These designs have set the bar in their eloquent integration of daylight and are used by the Integrated Design Lab of Seattle as exemplars for daylighting design for recreational and large-volume spaces. Thoughtful use of natural daylight, especially for  athletic facilities in schools, can help create enlivened, enjoyable spaces to occupy and learn while at the same time minimizing energy use and operational costs.

Gym projects include:

  • Eastside Prep TMAC gym
  • Clyde Hill Residence and basketball gym
  • APLUS Sodo Gym
  • Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club (A project of W A|U)
  • EX3 Teen Center (A project of W A|U)
  • SW Community Center (A project of W A|U)
  • Studies include: NBA training facility, Magnuson Park Basketball Facility, Athletic Complex (private school), APLUS basketball facility
