Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club

Seattle, Washington
Project Lead: Jeff Boone

The design of this $11million, 40,000-sf Boys & Girls Club and teen center strives to create a unique and uplifting oasis for kids while enduring the abuse of time gracefully. With a restrictive budget, precast, concrete panels – commonly used in nearby agricultural warehouses – are utilized and transformed into a dynamic and light-filled facility that includes a double-gym, games rooms, recording studio, and classrooms. The abundant, yet calibrated daylight allows the gym to be used without electric lighting even on a typical overcast Seattle day.

“It was not until I went to the club that I understood how daylight is used as another material.”
– 2010 AIA Seattle Honor Award Juror

“There are many talented architects out there – few with Jeff’s combination of skills. First, Jeff is an innovative and skilled designer. More importantly, he is a good listener and partner… If you are taking on the often daunting endeavor of designing and constructing a new facility – you want Jeff Boone in your corner.”
– Daniel Johnson, former CEO of Boys & Girls Club of King County
