Big 1410

Seattle, Washington

This project seeks to provide high-quality, attractive housing that integrates seamlessly into the established Capitol Hill neighborhood. The building will contain approximately 24 apartment units, replacing an aging apartment building with half as many units. The proposed design includes a pair of open-air light courts allow “land-locked dwelling units” to function as true one-bedrooms, rather than studios as is more typical.  Integrated balconies create a layered expression that is reinforced by primary and secondary materials. The shifting window arrangement adds dynamism to the façade without compromising the building cohesiveness.  Large expanses of glass storefront at the first floor combined with a continuous six-foot setback relative to the upper levels allows the residential mass to float above ground level.

As with other PUBLIC47 Apartment projects, our goal is to create a place that enriches the lives of its inhabitants, as well as the lives of those who experience the building more tangentially—the pedestrian, the neighbor, or the Seattleite who takes pride in the built environment.
